Red Oak Beams

Red Oak Beams, custom cut to your dimensions*, are available as low as $1.25 for a limited time. Normally $2.00 per board foot.

Red Oak is a strong, heavy choice for timbers. It is often used because of its abundance, grain structure, and workability. While not as easy to work as white pine, its strength allows for greater spans with slightly smaller timbers. Red Oak is an excellent choice for interior framing or other interior structural members. It should remain protected from the outdoor elements unless heavily treated. Red Oak has a very prominent grain pattern when flat sawn and can have wide ray fleck when quarter sawn. It is more prone to checking and twisting when compared with White Pine, but this does not affect the structural integrity.

White Oak Beams

White Oak Beams, custom cut to your dimensions*, are available as low as $1.50 for a limited time. Normally $2.00 to $3.00 per board foot.

White Oak is a strong and heavy choice for timbers. It is one of the most durable timbers available for constructing outdoor frames or parts of frames that may be exposed to wet conditions. White Oak's strength and flexibility make it an excellent choice for curved frame members. Traditionally this oak is seen as sill plates in older structures and as an important asset to ship building. The flat sawn grain is very similar to Red Oak with a tan color, but White Oak tends to have more and larger ray-fleck when quarter sawn. White Oak does not split as much as Red Oak, but still more than the White pine, with no impact on its structural strength. It is available in long lengths that require less support.
